MARK YOUR CALENDAR
CELEBRATING PRESBYTERIAN HERITAGE AND PENTECOST
SUNDAY MAY 19, 2002

INVITE A FRIEND

Our Presbyterian heritage is always honored the Sunday closest to May 19th, the date of the first Presbytery formation in colonial America.

Presbyterians have a great and wonderful heritage to celebrate. Presbyterian faith offers hope and wholeness to all of God's people. Hope lies in becoming part of what God is doing today and First Presbyterian is a presence of hope for a world in which God is working.

CELEBRATE PENTECOST

Divided tongues, as of fire….rested on them."

PENTECOST, MAY 19TH

Pentecost, the fiftieth day, marks the gift of the Holy Spirit to the church. You are encouraged to wear red on Pentecost, May 19th as First Presbyterian celebrates the birthday of the church.

WORSHIP & MUSIC EDUCATION
10:05 AM THE TRINITY TRAILS ROTATION MODEL SUNDAY SCHOOL

The Trinity Trails (Rotation Model Sunday School) will be offering May 5, 12, and 26 the story and lessons of The Loaves and Fishes and Jesus calling us, as disciples, to "feed my sheep." We will be introducing Heifer Project International, a Christian U.S. based program that works around the world to help the poor and needy through gifts of animals, crops, and teaching new techniques to enable them to feed themselves. The premise is that the gift of life's first offspring will be given to another neighbor in need and the gift keeps on giving. We will conclude this Sunday School project at the end of May.

May 19th is the churchwide Pentecost Picnic. This is the celebration of the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit. We celebrate this as the Birthday of Christ's Church. During "The Trinity Trails" the lesson will be about Pentecost and all participants will create Pentecost decorations, windsocks, kites etc. to enjoy at the picnic. Lawn and playground activities will follow the picnic. Bring your own picnic lunch, cake and drinks will be provided.

ROCKWALL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
SUMMER 2002 PROGRAMS

On Sunday, May 19th David Wasserman, General Presbyter, of Grace Presbytery, will join us in worship to welcome our summer intern, Mark Keffer. Mark will begin work on May 13th and his last Sunday will be July 21st.

Following are just a few of the programs Mark has planned for our youth and young adults:

Summer Shema - Grab a guitar, bring a friend, or just come as you are. Join us for evenings of praise music, fellowship, FOOD, and God's Word. Wednesday nights (May 15-July 24), from 7-9 PM. We will gather in the youth Sunday school room at 7:00 PM and go from there, depending upon the activity. The focus will be, how we can faithfully live out God's commandment in Deut.6:4-5 to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and might. The Wednesday night meetings are intended for students in grades 8-12, recent high school grads and first-year college students. Adult helpers are encouraged to attend.

Youth Core - Hey adults! Have a heart for youth ministry? Want to reach youths in your congregation and community and see them grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ? Join the youth core, a group of adults in the congregation of ALL gifts, ages and backgrounds who want to establish and carry out a vision for youth ministry in Rockwall Presbyterian Church. It doesn't take experts or a large time commitment, just a love for kids, a heart for God, and a desire to serve. Our four meetings will address subjects such as vision, leadership, programming, education, etc., and we will also gather for fellowship and brief devotional exercises. A youth ministry is only as strong as its adult leadership, so please join us Sunday nights (May 19, June 9, June 30, July 14), from 6:30-8:00 PM in the conference room.

Young Adult Fellowship - Home from college, just out of college or already in the workforce? Join us Sunday nights (June 2, 16, July 7, 21) from 6:30 PM for fellowship activities and a 4-part study of Paul's Letter to the Galatians.

Sign up for all programs in the church office or e-mail Summer Youth Intern Mark Keffer.

First Presbyterian is blessed to have Mark serve with us this summer. Mark is a young man, with gifts that enhance ministry. His focus will be with youth and young adults. Your prayers, participation and/or volunteering will strengthen the church and Mark's ministry.
