Presbyterians recognize that the scriptures do not contain a detailed plan for church government; in spite of this, however, Presbyterians (along with other Christian churches) have always sought to base polity on principles found in the Bible. In keeping with this idea, the offices of the church are ones for which there is clear precedent in scripture. Presbyterians hold to the belief that power within the church is to be exercised by groups of officers rather than individuals. We believe that the Holy Spirit speaks most clearly on matters of government through the prayerful deliberations of groups of Presbyters. Presbyterians hold that groups are less likely to fall into error than is an individual. Therefore, officers organized into groups called governing bodies make most decisions in the church. Session Membership is as follows: Class of 2002: Carol Poole, Eileen Roberson, Laura Roughton, Bill Sinclair (serving 1 year unexpired term of Lee Harris) Class of 2003: Greg Blair, David Crutchfield, Dee Whitfield, Meg Tonne, Tim Layendecker (Elder/Trustee) Class of 2004: David Gordon, Richard Kirk, Marilyn Hall, Brad Tomlinson (Elder/Trustee) Trustees: Tim Layendecker, Bill Sinclair, Brad Tomlinson Treasurer: Brad Tomlinson A sincere "thank you" is extended to the class of 2001 for their faithful service: Jannie Clark, Glenn Detgen, Sue Sinclair, Preston Dobbs. |
